You’re Not Crazy… Nuts Are Good for Your Heart

You’re Not Crazy… Nuts Are Good for Your Heart Researchers say peanuts, walnuts, and tree nuts can reduce your risk of stroke and heart attack. The more you eat, the better. Eating several small servings of nuts every week may lower your risk of heart attack and stroke. That’s the finding of one of the largest studies on nuts to date. Researchers from the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health studied 210,000 people in three large prospective studies with a 32-year follow up. The participants’ nut consumption was assessed with food frequency questionnaires. The researchers said they found a significant association between the consumption of nuts and a lower risk of cardiovascular problems. “People who regularly eat nuts, including peanuts, walnuts, and tree nuts, have a lower risk of developing cardiovascular disease or coronary heart disease compared to people who never, or almost never, eat nuts. We found a consistent inverse association between total nut consu
The Rest of the World Is Obsessed with Bidets — Here’s Why Bidets are more affordable than ever and great for your bottom. Everybody poops. But not everybody has a successful wipe. If you feel like your bathroom experience mirrors “The NeverEnding Story,” then it may be time to forgo toilet paper, like some European, Asian, and South American countries do. Enter: The bidet. You may have seen these in photographs from friends visiting European hostels with the caption, “Why is this sink so low?” Or you may have seen them modernized as toilet attachments in Japanese homes or restaurants (77.5 percent of Japanese use them). Bidet (pronounced bi-day) sounds like a fancy French word — and it is — but the mechanics are decidedly mundane. A bidet is basically a shallow toilet that sprays water on one’s genitals. It may sound strange but a bidet is actually a fantastic alternative to wiping. Europe and other parts of the world realized this long ago, so why hasn’t America caug

Is the Keto Diet Better Than a Regular Diet, Even with Exercise?

Is the Keto Diet Better Than a Regular Diet, Even with Exercise? Researchers say the ketogenic diet does a better job controlling metabolic syndrome. Dietitians aren’t so sure. Is the ketogenic diet more effective for people with metabolic syndrome than a standard American diet with exercise? Researchers from Bethel University in Minnesota think so. But dietitians say it may not be that simple. The researchers set out to discover if a sustained, controlled ketogenic diet would reduce the impact of metabolic syndrome as well as decrease the weight, body mass index (BMI), and body fat mass of study participants. They brought together a group of 30 adults who had been diagnosed with metabolic syndrome, a cluster of conditions that occur at the same time. The conditions can include high blood pressure, high blood sugar, excess body fat around the waistline, and abnormal cholesterol levels. People with metabolic syndrome are at an increased risk of heart attack and

Why Cricket Flour Is the Food of the Future

Why Cricket Flour Is the Food of the Future Cricket flour nutrients  Cricket flour taste Environmental benefits  Recipes Cost  Takeaway Hear us out, cricket flour isn’t as gross as you think Entomophagy, or the eating of insects, has a bad reputation. We get it — even survey results of over 400 people found that the biggest concern of eating insects was simply, “It just grosses me out.” But what if embracing insects as food is a step toward making the world a better place? Is the power of knowledge — knowing that this product could change your diet  and  positively impact Mother Nature — enough to change your mind? The same survey says yes. They found that after participants learned more about entomophagy, most were open to eating crickets, more so when it’s presented as “flour.” I tried eating a cricket flour-based pasta dish once, and it didn’t taste noticeably different than regular pasta. There was a slightly grittier texture, but not too different than whole

All About Raw Honey: How Is It Different Than Regular Honey

All About Raw Honey: How Is It Different Than Regular Honey Honey is a thick, sweet syrup made by honey bees. It’s loaded with healthy plant compounds and has been linked to several health benefits. However, there's controversy surrounding which type of honey — raw or regular — is healthiest. Some people believe that the raw variety of honey is better for optimal health, while others claim there is no difference between the two. What Is Raw Honey? Raw honey is best described as honey “as it exists in the beehive” ( 1 ). It is made by extracting honey from the honeycombs of the hive and pouring it over a mesh or nylon cloth to separate the honey from impurities like beeswax and dead bees . Once strained, raw honey is bottled and ready to be enjoyed. On the other hand, the production of regular honey involves several more steps before it is bottled — such as pasteurization and filtration . Pasteurization is a process that destroys the yeast found in h
